Reporting to the Vice President Operations, the Mine Manager will be responsible for leading and directing the Open Pit Mining, Engineering and Underground Departments with an objective to plan, sustain and improve the 2008 production targets. The Kumtor open pit gold mine, is a 160,000 BCM per day operation with a mobile fleet of 160 pieces of equipment. A $35 million exploration decline has been initiated to access high grade ore beneath the open pit. The decline is expected to reach the ore zone in approximately 18 months. A pre-feasibility study is expected to be awarded by the end of the year. The development work is being done by a principal contractor.
A Mining Professional with a minimum of 10-12 years Senior Management experience is required, preferably in at least 2 similar size operations. The ideal candidate will be a self motivated individual with a high degree of integrity. The incumbent will be accountable for the performance of the geology, mine operations, and mine engineering (including hydrogeology) departments. Direct reports include the Engineering Manager and Production Manager. Experience in mechanized underground mining environments would be an advantage, as would prior experience in an FSU country, or other developing country. Knowledge of the Russian language would be an asset, but not a requirement of the position.
The Mine Manger will be expected to promote the Company’s Behavior Based Safety Program and participate in Continuous Improvement Process Programs. A familiarity and working knowledge of Six Sigma principles will be of benefit. An important component of the job function is an active involvement in the training and development programs for National staff.
This is a resident position, located in Bishkek, the capital city of the Kyrgyz Republic which is a pleasant city with good amenities though the incumbent will work and live at the mine site during the work week.
An attractive resident expatriate remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate.
