Committed to Our People

Centerra is committed to creating and sharing economic value in the countries and communities where it operates. Economic value may include direct contributions to national and regional governments, employee wages, direct and indirect taxes and mandatory payments, purchases of local goods and services, and strategic community investment programs. Our activities can also contribute indirectly and create positive multiplier effects in terms of local socio-economic development through improvements to local infrastructure and community health and well-being.

Our People

Centerra believes diversity highlights the inherent value in our organization, showcasing the Company’s people-first philosophy by building a workforce that reflects the demographics of local communities. Our inclusive workplace culture empowers us to attract, retain and develop top talent at all levels of the organization. Different policies, programs, procedures, training activities and agreements at each of our operations demonstrate the breadth of cultural diversity and value in every workplace while also acknowledging the distinct cultures, communities and people of each region. Respecting the rights of our people, developing and promoting our talent and creating an inclusive work environment that recognizes the diversity and the unique experiences of our employees is fundamental to our People First mandate.

Workplace Health and Safety

Centerra is committed to building a zero-harm culture by fully embedding Centerra’s safety leadership values into our processes, systems and initiatives. The health and safety of our employees, contractors, communities, site visitors and the public is critical to our success and continued operation. All our activities, from exploration to mine closure, are conducted with health and safety top of mind and with an “all incidents are preventable” mentality. This is fundamental to being a responsible miner.

Stakeholder Engagement

Stakeholder engagement and consultation is vital to securing and maintaining our social license to operate. A stakeholder is anyone who is interested in or impacted by Centerra’s operations, such as employees, local community members, suppliers, government representatives, and investors. We are committed to ensuring that local stakeholders and project-impacted Indigenous groups are informed about our current activities and future plans. We seek to listen, learn and share, while also being open to receiving constructive feedback and comments regarding Centerra’s mining activities. Being accountable to community groups with respect to their concerns, issues, expectations and grievances is incredibly important for us.

Indigenous Relations

Centerra recognizes the diversity of Indigenous groups on the lands on which we operate and respects the rights, lands, traditions, culturally sensitive areas, values, interests and aspirations of these Indigenous groups. Centerra’s approach to working alongside Indigenous groups focuses on establishing a wide range of meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships to generate a positive, productive impact for the community. We are committed to working in a relationship of care, respect, understanding and trust and to ensuring our work promotes the full realization of the social, economic and cultural rights of Indigenous groups.

Responsible Sourcing

Centerra recognizes the vital and unique role that responsible sourcing plays in socio-economic development for our project- impacted communities. We make it a priority to hire locally and allocate resources to developing local skills and capabilities.

Human Rights

Respecting and upholding human rights is fundamental to leaving a positive legacy in the communities and regions where Centerra operates. Our commitment is at the very core of our “responsible miner” value and extends to project-impacted communities, Indigenous groups, local employees and suppliers. Our approach to human rights aligns with the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHRs) and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), starting with internal policy setting and employee training.
